Carmel Beach is THE beach, and so dog friendly and
off-leash. Here are the directions to make parking easier:
Directions From Quail Lodge:
Carmel Valley Rd to Hwy 1, go about 3.5 miles
North on Highway 1, go about one mile
Left on Ocean Avenue, go almost all the way down to the ocean, about
1 mile
Left on San Antonio Ave, go one block to 8th Ave.
Park anywhere around that intersection, 8th and San Antonio. Walk
down to Senic and walk left along Senic.
Carmel Beach itself is sublime. But for easier walking, stay up
on the path along Scenic Drive. You can walk about 1.2 miles along
this path until you get to Carmel River State Beach. There is a
parking lot there, and a nice restroom. There is a tiny beach there
where the Carmel River comes out to the ocean.
The other nice beach is Asilomar Beach, in Pacific Grove. Only half
of it is off-leash. Park along Sunset Dr., near, say Pico. Then
walk toward the Inn at Spanish Bay. Do this around sunset and you
will hear and see the BagPiper. The Inn has a big patio where you
can go up and have a drink and listen to the Bag Piper even with
your dog.
Hiking
- several adjacent regional parks have scenic waterfalls and
riverside trails and ocean vistas and redwood groves
For hiking, Garland
Ranch with dogs and Point Lobos without dogs. Garland is about
5-10 miles from Quail Lodge and has some of the greatest hiking
in the area!
